gold box run with all fighters
just finished pool of radiance and curse of the azure bonds with a party of all human fighters B) used modify char to max out the stats, which i don't love to do, but i think it would have been next to impossible to get through some battles (mostly the final battle of each game) if i hadn't. took about a dozen tries to get through the tyranthraxus battle at the end of curse without any deaths--it's much harder if you have to rely on wands for all your fireball/ice storm effects, potions for your buffs, and have no protection from hold person spells! fun though.
by the way:
had dirten with me all the way through the end in pool of radiance, which i didn't know you could do--cleared out the temple of bane before picking up dirten, without even thinking about it, and this means dirten stays with you for the rest of the game.

Wow. That's super cool A. That must have been tough without a magic-user though. At least you picked up Dirten for cleric spellcasting. It'd be impossible without a cleric. Were you able to obtain enough wands to last you the whole game? or did you use the item duplication trick?

Re: gold box run with all fighters
pool of radiance seemed just fine without a cleric, it just means you have to rest for periods of days to heal up. pool of radiance is pretty forgiving as far as resting goes, pretty much anywhere you are in the game is within easy retreat range of a place where you can safely rest for an arbitrary length of time. that's not the case in curse of the azure bonds, where in some hard areas you might be able to get away with hitting fix once but not resting for 20 days. so having no cleric is a little tougher in the games after pool of radiance.
the only things i missed about not having a magic user were invulnerability spells (hold person spells cast by enemy spellcasters are really brutal without this and area-of-effect attack spells like fireball. maybe haste too. but for the most part i found that fighters with no magical aid sufficed for all but the hardest battles, and for those battles i used wand charges and potions. i had no problem with running out of either because there weren't many times it was necessary. didn't use the item duplication trick.
multi-classed everyone when they hit level 13 in secret of the silver blades but seems to me like it would have been easier to finish ssb keeping everyone a fighter. i think all fighters might be impossible to finish pools of darkness with, though.
