What's next?
So, after you get squared away with the rivers, lakes, oceans, etc., what's next in your agenda? monster creation? character creation? more terrain? like ice/snow covered landscape, or lava?

Re: What's next?
Next will be the addition of some (maybe ugly ) farview rendering, to maybe double the view distance of player. It will look strange and limited to terrain and some other elements.
Then comes the big part called wildlife, with normal animals around.
Note that we already have arctic climate with snow. No lava yet! Good idea!

Re: What's next?
Any thoughts on traveling by sea? Battles at sea? Sea monsters?

Yes, planned to be included such things. It won't be easy especially the battle, but I find it fun too, so hopefully we will get to see such things in jcrpg later.

You can check the new release with the first development versions of River and Lake. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=197331 http://jcrpg.blogspot.com/2007/10/flowing-to-release.html

Re: What's next?
The trees and vegetation have come a long way since your first tree/shrub imagery. It looks very well made now. Looks like you've got some good beginnings for wildlife now as well.

Yeah, a long way! :D Check here the road on one page: http://ilab.hu/jf/gp.php?id=f34df9e509933d2&m=posts&q=598&n=last#gp_kepek
And yes, the opensource community "has mobilized" its best people (sorry for the odd personalization :D ), or say people mobilized themselves, and contributed some very nice artwork already! Considering the current pre-alpha state of the project, I find this a great thing, yeah, there ARE people who believe in opensource and unselfish contribution.
Here are they:
