(AAR) Gateway to the Savage Frontier: Yartar and meeting Krevish

The tavern was booming with business, the brew was being served and the people were merry. In the far corner of the room, Sir Joe stood up at the wooden table and raised his mug of beer and gave a toast. Here's to us for protecting the caravan all the way from Citadel Adbar to Yartar! The party cheered and Dofner the dwarf felt the need to chime in. "And even better that we got paid to do it too" he said. The pub's waitress then brought plates of food to the table. Sasha couldn't help but notice the enormous amount of food being brought to the dwarf. "Hey Dofner, can you really eat those five steaks in one sitting?" "You can bet your arse on it!" he replied. Sir Joe laughed. "After our long journey, I would have thought you'd have ordered six or seven." "The night isn't over yet" the dwarf chuckled as he motioned to the waitress to bring the party another round of beer. "This local Yartar brew is to die for!" the dwarf shouted.

A distorted ancient sounding voice came from the end of the table. "Be careful what you say dwarf. The spirits are always listening." The party turned their heads upon hearing the voice of the old mage and they all fell silent. Then after seeing a smile crack on the old man's face, the party burst into laughter. The party celebrated and drank with the local tavern patrons until the small hours of the morning. Perhaps too long. Sometime during the course of the evening a waitress brought out a large tray of mugs filled with beer. "More, More for everyone! Its on the house!" The party all drank their share.

Late next morning Sir Joe awoke in despair as he realized that the party had been robbed of their money and equipment during the night. "I guess its true what they said about being careful about Yartar being the theiving capital of the Frontier. Looks like we made one two many friends at the pub last night."
The old mage woke. "Someone must have slipped something into our drinks. I normally am a very light sleeper and wake early every morning. Now here it is past noon. Looks like we fell for one of the oldest tricks in the book." he said shamefully. "Luckily I kept a pouch of coins under my pillow. It's not much, but we should be able to purchase some equipment at the armoury.

The party got themselves ready and headed out the door of the Inn of the Glowing Gem and across the road to the armoury. The shop owner raised his head towards the party upon seeing the door to the shop open. He had a fine selection of wares, but having only limited resources we purchased only the things we needed. Dofner bought a double-bladed axe, Sir Joe a long sword, Sasha a mace and shield, and the old mage took a quarterstaff. We paid the shop owner and left the armoury, following the stone road to a bridge over the river Surbrin. Two armored horsemen in black hooded robes came charging across the bridge at a gallop nearly running us down in the process. The riders wore helmets and hoods that hid their faces as they raced onward and out past the city gates. "The nerve of those riders! Why I ought to smash their skulls in with my axe! I'd pound their heads together I would!" Dofner exclaimed.
Sir Joe stopped in his tracks. "Do you hear that?"
"Yes I can hear Dofner perfectly loud and clear from here." Sasha replied.
"No, not him. I think there's someone down in that alleyway.
A muffled yell of "help" then sounds in the distance. "Come on, lets check it out." Sir Joe responds as he dashes down into a back alleyway leaping over piles of garbage that is strewn accross the ground. Sasha quickly follows as Dofner and the old mage struggle to keep up. "Come on Gramps! try to keep pace. Can't be too hard to keep up with a dwarf." Dofner shouts.
"Just in case there are any traps up ahead, I think I'll let the dwarf go first." the old mage smirked.

In a dark corner of the alleyway a group of thugs confronted a small frightened man. One of the thugs armed with a blade, threatens the man. "I'm not gonna ask you again. Give me your money little man and we'll let you go, otherwise Brutus here is gonna get angry. You don't want Brutus to get angry do you? He might decide to use your face as a punching bag. Right Brutus?"
"Yeah. A punching bag. Your face is gonna get all screwed up after I'm done with it. Heh Heh Heh." Brutus says as he clenches his fists.
Sir Joe emerges from behind the group of thugs with his sword drawn. "Let him go." Sasha and the others arrive to back him up.
The first thug turns around upon hearing Sir Joe's command. "Well well. Seems you have some friends to back you up eh? and one with a flashy new sword. I bet you've never even used it. Maybe you don't even know how to. Guess we'll just have to find out. Come on boys, lets get these do-gooders!" And with that, the thug swings his blade at Sir Joe, who meets the blade with his own sword in response. The clash of metal upon metal springs the whole party into action.
Another thug takes a jab at Sasha which is deflected by her round shield. She swings back with her mace hitting the thug in the arm, tearing his flesh and breaking the thug's arm in the process. Dofner takes a swing with his axe, but Brutus leaps at him and grabs the axe by the handle and the two struggle to gain control of the axe. A fourth thug with a sword in hand confronts the old mage. "Let me help you to your grave old man!" he shouts as he swings his sword, but the mage deflects the dull blade with his quarterstaff. "I'm not going down that easy." the mage retorts as a quick swing of the quarterstaff hits the thug squarely in the groin. The thug then collapses on the ground in pain.
Sir Joe fends off the first thug with a swing to the left, then right, then a diagonal swing slices into the thug and he lets out a scream and falls backwards hitting the ground hard. The small man aims a bow and lets loose an arrow which whizzes though the air and strikes another thug in the heart. Meanwhile Dofner is still fighting to get the upper hand and control of the axe when Brutus headbutts Dofner and the dwarf falls to the ground leaving Brutus with the axe. Brutus smiles and lifts the axe high into the air above Dofner and lets out a loud battle cry before striking down on the dwarf, but before the axe falls, a sword pierces Brutus' upper torso from behind.

"Good will always triumph over evil." boomed Sir Joe, as Brutus falls to the ground leaving Sir Joe's new sword bloodied from battle.

The rest of the surviving thugs run off down and out of the alley and scatter. Sir Joe takes the axe, still clasped in Brutus' hands and returns it to Dofner. "Here. You'll be needing this back I'd imagine." The party regroups and greets the small man for the first time. "Well met, and a fine skill you have with that bow. My name is Sir Joe and I lead this ragtag group of adventurers. Who might you be?" Sir Joe inquired.
"Krevish" the small man timidly replied.........
